Auburn, AL — The State University of New York at New Paltz NCEA team competed against hosting Auburn University and Sewanee Friday in its first meet of 2022.
After a tough effort against one of the best equestrian programs in the country in the Auburn Tigers, the Hawks out-scored the Tigers of Sewanee, 586-573.5 but fell, 4-3.
Seraphina Morreale, riding Cartoon, earned the only win for SUNY New Paltz in fences, defeating Sarah Bucholz, 79-64.
Devyn Looney recorded the best score for the Hawks in fences scoring 80 points on Neto but was narrowly defeated by Gillian Aiken's 82 points.

Alanna Ryan and
Brynley Smith each won their head-to-head in flat. Ryan scored 62.5 points to edge Buchholz with each riding Viper. Smith had an impressive performance, scoring 74.5 points to defeat Georgia Ranson, riding Encore.
Against the Auburn, SUNY New Paltz scored 556.5 points with Ryan earning the lone head-to-head victory in the meet, defeating Hallie Rush, 71-70 in flat riding Bravado. The Tigers, scoring 601 points, won every other matchup with help from Meghan Knapic and Ellie Ferrigno who scored 86 and 80 in fences to defeat Smith (78) and Ryan (69) riding Cento and Como, respectively. Looney was just slightly edged in fences, falling to Mary-Grace Segars, 79-76 on Karl. Morreale had the highest score for the Hawks in flat, scoring 72 points on Rex.
SUNY New Paltz remain in Auburn Saturday, as it closes out the weekend with a matchup against Dartmouth.
