Plattsburgh, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team traveled north to face SUNY Plattsburgh for a SUNYAC match Saturday and earned a straight-set victory.
The Hawks (11-2 overall, 4-1 SUNYAC) were able to control the tempo and start the day off with a 25-7 set win to give them a 1-0 lead. They continued their hot start taking the second set as well, 25-12. The third and final set was a lot closer than the previous two and went back and forth the entire way, seeing SUNY New Paltz eventually getting two straight points to close out the sweep 25-20.
The Hawks controlled each set and recorded more points, kills, digs, aces, blocks and assists than the Cardinals.
Mackenzie Williams led the team offensively with 12 kills and 15 points with
Makenzie Bills following after recording 10 kills and 10 points on the day, while the duo of
Dana Collins and
Cate DiGiacomo combined for 36 assists, recording 18 each.
Kayleigh Emanuelson registered six aces and six points to finish with a career-high, as she also landed her name in the program's single-match record books with her six aces tied for seventh most all-time.
SUNY New Paltz has been dominant just past the halfway mark in the season and will look to continue its efforts when they host four different teams for their second Hawks Invitational starting Friday at 1:30 p.m. when it takes on the Cougars of Misericordia.
