SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Takes Home 2-0 Shutout Win Over Manhattanville

Purchase, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz's Women's Soccer team traveled an hour south to face the Valiants of Manhattanville for a non-conference affair. The Hawks held on in the second period to lock up yet another win on their already great season, winning 2-0.

"I thought our attack did well at creating opportunities, had an excellent attacking mentality," said SUNY New Paltz coach Mike Eckberg. "Everyone stayed committed to both sides of the ball tonight throughout 90 minutes."

The Hawks (10-3-1) came into the game off another shutout victory against The college at Brockport this past Saturday, 2-0. The Valiants (6-8-1)) entered play after an impressive performance against SUNY Purchase where they also won in a shutout 4-0.

The first half saw SUNY New Paltz take control early as senior forward Ally Donovan put the Hawks up 1-0 in the 10th minute off an assist from Rachel Eisert. Donovan continued her dominance as she scored her second goal of the first half during the 23rd minute coming off an assist from Brooke Kelleher with Donovan enjoying her first two-goal game since 2019.

"Our second goal was an excellent ball from Siena to the weak side gap," Eckberg said. "Ally did a great job pushing the line and was ultra composed on the finish."

The Hawks controlled the pace of the first half, out-shooting the Valiants, 13-3 with six of their shots being on goal. They also racked up a duo of assists during the first period, but according to Eckberg could have done a better job finishing in the opportunities they created. "We need to be more clinical finishing in the final third," he said.
Maddie Franklin SUNYAC AOW
SUNY New Paltz took its 2-0 lead into the half and continued to control the pace of the match into the second, as it limited Manhattanville to just seven total shots on the night to improve to 10 wins and only three losses.

Maddie Franklin had another great outing in net and produced another shutout, saving all four shots on goal in her 90 minutes. Donovan finished with the games only two scores and teammates Eisert and Kelleher assisted on her goals. The Hawks outscored The Valiants in almost every category and continue to look sharp as they get ready for the postseason with one regular season match remaining.

Having already clinched a playoff spot, the Hawks will look ahead into the weekend where they will celebrate their seniors when they host the Lakers of Oswego for their final game of the regular season.
