Saratoga Springs, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz competed in the Skidmore Tri-Meet Saturday against the hosting Thoroughbreds and Bard College.
On the men's side, the Hawks defeated Bard College, 176-13, but fell to Skidmore, 121-84. For the women, SUNY New Paltz were edged by the Thoroughbreds, 153-52 while earning a 168-33 win over the Raptors.
Antonio Vavalle won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 50.29 seconds, while also taking first in the 500-freestyle after clocking in at 5:01.37.
Steven Macaluso also earned first for the Hawks on the men's side, winning the 100-yard butterfly after clocking in at 53.94 seconds.
Kelly Schweizer touched first in the 100-backstroke, finishing in 1:03.21 to just beat out Skidmore's Ella Plamet by .5 of a second.

SUNY New Paltz also hosted Vassar College Friday at Elting Pool. The men scored 109 points to the Brewers' 152, while the women totaled 97.5 points, falling to Vassar who scored 161.5.
Myles Dower won the 100-backstroke for the Hawks against the Brewers, clocking in at 56.31.
Paul Castner also claimed a first-place finish, winning the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:11.30. SUNY New Paltz had a 1-2 finish in the women's 100 butterfly with
Kelly Donlevy touching first in 1:01.87 and
Kirsten Giovanniello following in 1:02.78. Macaulso won the 100 butterfly on the men's side, timing in at 53.09, while Donlevy took home first once again in the women's 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.95. SUNY New Paltz rounded out the scoring with a win in the women's 200 freestyle relay, as the team of
Julia Iaboni,
Sierra DePry, Schweizer and Donlevy placed first in 1:45.83.
