New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team released its 2023 schedule Tuesday.
After finishing their 2022 season with a record of 6-10 and earning just their second berth into the SUNYAC Tournament, the Hawks return to the North Turf this season looking for success with head coach Randy Vite, as she returns for her second season after taking over the program last January.
SUNY New Paltz kicks off its 2023 campaign at home Feb. 25, hosting Utica University. The Hawks dropped their previous matchup against the Pioneers in 2022, falling on the road 16-12. They look to earn some redemption on their home turf and improve their 1-6 record against the program.
They then host St. Joseph's Long-Island on North Turf, hoping to keep its winning streak from its past battles against the Golden Eagles before concluding its non-conference slate against Hartwick College, Bard College, Stockton University and Mount St. Mary's College. The Hawks earned a win over Hartwick last season, while falling to the Osprey's. The last time SUNY New Paltz faced the Raptors was in 2018 where it collected a 15-5 win and will play the Knights for the first time since 2016. Vite then set up the program's first matchup against Hood College, as the team takes a trip down to Fedrick, MD to battle the Blazers March 11.
SUNY New Paltz begins SUNYAC play March 25 when it travels to Oswego, hoping to avenge last season's heart-breaking 9-8 loss and end a five-game losing streak against the program. Following Oswego, the Hawks take on Plattsburgh on North Turf for a redemption matchup after falling to the Cardinals on the road last season, 12-9.

The following Saturday the team hosts Fredonia, determined to extend their two-game winning streak since 2019. With a busy week following, SUNY New Paltz hits the road to play Buffalo State and SUNY Potsdam before returning home to conclude a tough stretch of three games in five days.
The schedule does not slow down from there. With an intense Senior Day matchup against the Knights April 15, the Hawks then face reigning SUNYAC Champion SUNY Cortland the same week. The daunting schedule continues, as SUNY New Paltz will hit the road for the remainder of the season to face Brockport and Oneonta where its position in the conference will be put to the test as the SUNYAC postseason tournament approaches. The Hawks have defeated the Red Dragons the past two seasons by a single goal but are still looking for its first win over the Golden Eagles in program history.
The first round of the SUNYAC Tournament begins April 29 with the semifinals and championship being held May 3 and May 6 at the highest seeded team remaining.
