New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming team will go head-to-head with SUNYAC rival, SUNY Oneonta Saturday in Elting Pool.
The men's and women's swim teams are heading into their last dual meet of the season with confidence after competing against their other SUNYAC rival, SUNY Cortland on Jan. 20. The Hawks dominated the Red Dragons 138-120 on the women's side, while the men fell short, 156-106, but still put up some great times in the pool.
"I'm very excited for our meet against Oneonta. We had some fantastic swims a couple weeks ago in our meet against Cortland and since then have only continued to put in hard work in the pool," said SUNY New Paltz assistant coach,
Maggie Davenport. "It's an exciting time of the season so I know everyone is ready to bring the energy and iron out those last little things as we close in on SUNYACs."
The men's and women's teams are expected to win against SUNY Oneonta. The women have an 11-year dual meet winning streak against the Red Dragons, while the men have not lost to them since 2014. SUNY New Paltz will get to swim 50's and 100's of stroke, which is something they don't get to do often. This should be a very fast and exciting meet.
The Hawks senior class of 2022 will also be acknowledged at Saturday's meet. "I'm excited to graduate with such a great group of people," said senior captain Leonardo Litovsky Aand to swim with my best friends in our pool for the very last time.
SUNY New Paltz will face SUNY Oneonta in its home pool at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The meet will be the program's last meet before they head up to Buffalo for SUNYAC Championships starting on Feb. 16.
