The State University of New York at New Paltz NCEA equestrian team will compete in the ECAC North Conference Championships in Hanover, New Hampshire at Morton Farm, the home of Dartmouth College Saturday and Sunday.
The Hawks will face the hosting Big Green and Sacred Heart Saturday and Sunday with fences taking place Saturday starting at 9 a.m. followed by flat Sunday, also starting at 9 a.m.
SUNY New Paltz is seeded third with Dartmouth second and the Pioneers seeded first with the teams competing in a round-robin styled two-day championship. The team with the best record of the two days will be crowned the ECAC North Champion and will punch their ticket to Nationals in Ocala, Florida at the World Equestrian Center April 14-16.
SUNY New Paltz faced the Big Green in Auburn, Alabama Jan 29 and earned a 5-3 win after outscoring them, 580.5-564. The Hawks won flat, 3-1 with
Seraphina Morreale scoring the highest total of the event with a 73.5 on Cantori. The two teams won two matches apiece in flat with Moreale once again scoring the highest of the event with a 78 on Player.
The last time SUNY New Paltz saw the Pioneers was last fall with the Hawks falling, 5-3 in Dover, Delaware. The Hawks were outscored 601.5-490 but had close results in flat, splitting the matchup 2-2 and was just behind in scoring, 313.5-312 in the event. Meanwhile in fences,
Devyn Looney earned the lone win for SUNY New Paltz while also notching the highest score with an impressive 88 on Tillie to edge the win over Sacred Heart's Hanna Lloyd who earned an 86.
The Pioneers and the Big Green competed Feb. 13 with the meet ending in a 4-4 tie with Dartmouth edging Sacred Heart in points to earn the win, 561.5-558.
The Hawks are set to face the Pioneers and Big Green in fences Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively, before competing in flat at the same times Sunday.
