The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse entertains the Golden Eagles of Brockport on North Turf Field Saturday at 1 p.m., which will count as the 18th meeting between the two teams since 1998 with the Hawks looking for their first win ever against the Golden Eagles. The last meeting between the two SUNYAC foes was on April 30, 2019, and was a 17-8 victory for Brockport.
Ranked No. 14 in the latest IWLCA national rankings, the Golden Eagles comes to New Paltz having suffered a difficult 18-17 loss to local rival RIT Wednesday. They carried a 15-10 lead into the fourth quarter, only to be outscored 8-2 by the Tigers, giving up the winning goal with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped Brockport to 3-3 overall with Saturday's game against SUNY New Patz serving as the Golden Eagles SUNYAC opener.
Brockport has scored 82 goals on 111 shots on goal in the young season with 113 ground balls, 54 caused turnovers and 71 draw controls. Against RIT, junior midfielder Claire Odette (Carthage, NY) scored six times to raise her season total to 15 goals on 20 shots on goal along with four assists. Freshman attacker Alayna Foos (Auburn, NY) netted five goals against the Tigers to also raise her season total to 15 on 18 shots on goal. She also has four assists. Junior attack Cassidy Burnash (Sacketts Harbor, NY), a 2021 SUNYAC Second Team selection, also comes in with 15 goals on 22 shots on goal; senior attack Allison Jennings (Memphis, NY), the 2019 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and a 2021 Second Team SUNYAC pick, has 13 goals on 22 shots on goal with five assists and needs one goals to hit the 100 career goal mark. Sophomore midfielder Logan Hibbard (Hilton, NY) has 11 goals, a team
leading nine assists with 11 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 13 draw controls. Rounding out the Golden Eagles is 2021 SUNYAC First Team choice Courtney Cunningham (Poughquag, NY) has six goals on 11 shots on goals and leads with 17 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 25 draw controls. Tending the net for Brockport has been 2021 SUNYAC First Team goalkeeper Morgan Elmer (Syracuse, NY). Having played 351.5 of 360 minutes, she has given up 69 goals, with 93 saves with a 3-3 record.
The Hawks have had the benefit of a week of practice before Saturdays game with their last contest was their impressive 17-6 win over Potsdam in their SUNYAC opener. Standing a 3-4 overall and 1-0 SUNYAC, they are looking to earn a place in the SUNYAC playoffs for the second season in a row. SUNY New Paltz has scored 79 goals with 99 ground balls, 65 caused turnovers and 104 draw controls.
Leading the Hawks is senior attacker
Katie Zito, who surpassed the 100-career goal mark against Potsdam, and has scored 23 goals on 33 shots on goals, with three assists and 10 ground balls. Close behind is sophomore midfielder
Kaitlyn Shaw (Rye Brook, NY) with 21 goals on 39 shots on goal, with five assists and a team leading 15 ground balls. Senior attack
Maddy Carullo (River Vale, NJ) has 12 goals on 18 shots on goal with nine assists and seven caused turnovers. Junior midfielder
Shannon Brosnan (Valhalla, NY) has six goals on 13 shots on goal, with six assists, eight ground balls, six caused turnovers and leads with 28 draw controls. Freshman attacker
Alyssa Indelicato (Selden, NY) has four goals and is tops with 10 assists. Junior midfielder
Maddie Gillis (Levittown, NY), who joined the team after competing on the Hawks championship basketball team, has quickly made her mark. The 2021 SUNYAC Second Team selection has scored four goals on eight shots on goal, with six assists, five ground balls and 22 draw controls thus far. Sophomore goalkeeper
Hailey Aber (Denville, NJ) has played every minute for SUNY New Paltz, giving up 76 goals for a 10.68 goals-against-average, with 68 saves and a 3-4 season record.
The Hawks final seven season games are all against SUNYAC foes with five of those games away from North Turf Field.
