Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team kept its perfect SUNYAC record Saturday after defeating The College at Brockport, 8-1 at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The Hawks (9-4-1 overall, 6-0 SUNYAC) only loss came at first doubles, as
Trinity Chow and
Tatiana Barnett were edged 10-8.
Onalee Batcheller and
Alexandra Dratch won 8-0 at second doubles, while
Isabel van der Veen and
Loretta Donovan swept at third doubles as well, 8-0.
"One doubles lost an outstanding match 10-8 in a tie breaker," said SUNY New Paltz coach
Rob Bruley. "Really pleased with the way the team competed over the last three days. These wins should set us up nicely for the conference showdown with Oneonta this coming Saturday."
The Hawks were perfect in singles action. Chow won 6-4, 6-1 at first singles with
Anya Barteck earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory at second singles. Batcheller, Barnett and
Alex Chimenti each swept their matches at third, fourth and sixth singles, respectively, 6-0, 6-0, while Donovan won, 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles.
"Very strong singles play with Trinity and Anya leading the way in singles, winning two matches against very strong opponents," Bruley said. "Second and third doubles concluded the three days with another very high-level performance."
SUNY New Paltz concludes its three-day slate at Binghamton Tennis Club with wins over the Golden Eagles, Fredonia and Geneseo. Up next for the Hawks is a non-conference match at home against William Paterson before concluding the regular season in a blue out, senior day match Saturday against rival SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m.
