Box Score 2 ENDWELL,NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus SUNY Oswego.
The Hawks started off hot in Game 1 as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Justin Ortiz led off the game with a single. He then stole second and third, eventually scoring on a
Michael Boccarossa double to right field.
Joe Patane walked and also scored in the inning.
The offense was held off from there until the 9th inning when a
Michael Boccarossa single started a four-run rally in the inning.
Dean Stalzer followed with a single to center field, and
Jordan Rios walked to load the bases.
Dillon Ristano reached first on a fielder's choice, scoring Boccarossa.
Matt Laurelli also reached on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat.
Justin Ortiz bunted for a single. Rios, Laurelli, and Ortiz all eventually scored on consecutive wild pitches from the Oswego pitcher. The ninth inning rally was held at four runs, and the Hawks lost 14-6.
Bobby Ramsey had a strong outing in Game 2. Ramsey pitched 4.0 innings allowing just two runs on four hits. He also had a huge strikeout to close the fourth inning stranding the bases loaded.
Nick Harvey came in relief in the fifth inning. Harvey shut down the Lakers in his two innings of relief, striking out two while allowing no hits. Laurelli, Rios, and
Leo Alvarez all contributed with hits in the game, but SUNY New Paltz wasn't able to put any runners across, thus dropping the game, 2-0.
Boccarossa continued his hot streak in Saturday's games, going 3-for-6 on the day. Boccarossa was batting an impressive .300 with a .412 on-base percentage heading into the doubleheader. Ortiz also had a notable day, batting 2-for-7 on the day with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
The Hawks return to Maine Endwell High School on Sunday for the final game of the weekend versus SUNY Oswego at 12 p.m.
