SUNY New Paltz Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Announces 2021-22 Department Awards

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz held its annual department awards ceremony Wednesday in Lecture Center 100 to celebrate the 2021-22 academic year and the successes all 17 varsity programs had.

The New Paltz Prize 
Awarded to the male and female team that had the highest grade-point average at the conclusion of each semester. To be considered for the team prize, team's must have a minimum of 10 members. 

Spring 2021: Women's Volleyball (3.71) & Men's Soccer (3.58)
Fall 2021: Women's Soccer (3.61) & Men's Cross Country (3.62)
 
The Donald Bishko Award 
Awarded to the male and female athlete who has the highest combined grade-point average at the conclusion of the spring and fall of the year leading to the award.

Michael Boccarossa (baseball), Elias Elcock (men's lacrosse) & Reed Williams (men's cross country)
Rhionna Bianchini (softball), Morgan Gunter (field hockey), Kyra D'Amico (field hockey), Kate Cochran (women's cross country), Lisette Palomo (women's soccer) and Alex Chimenti (women's tennis)
 
Leadership Wall Inductees 
These individuals have demonstrated exemplary leadership both in and out of competition and will have a plaque bearing their name and photo on the department's Leadership Wall. 

Isaiah Bien-Aise (men's basketball), Katie Quagliana (softball), Spencer Ryczek (men's soccer) and Graci Serravillo (women's basketball)
 
The Athletic Director's Award
Awarded to a person or persons who, in the estimation of the Athletic Director, has provided dedicated service to the department.
 
Dean Winslow, Rick Drosdowich and Jack Klosterman (Facilities Operations)

The Andrew Cassius Award
Men's Volleyball program's most valuable player
 
Cam Clark (senior, setter)
 
The Kenneth F. Burda Sportsmanship Award
Awarded to a student-athlete who has participated for at least three years and who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, sportsmanship, citizenship, ethical conduct and leadership throughout his/her career beyond which is generally expected of student-athletes at New Paltz.

The Floyd Patterson Award (Male Athlete of the Year)
Pat Wing (men's volleyball)
 
The Carol Eckman Award (Female Athlete of the Year)
Jessica Ascencao (field hockey)
 
Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. Award 
Awarded to a junior or senior athlete with two or more years of varsity participation whose dedication, perseverance and service beyond self throughout his/her athletic career at New Paltz has been an inspiration to both his/her teammates and fellow students.
