New Paltz, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team released its 2022 schedule Monday.
After a stellar season that led the Hawks to winning the 2021 SUNYAC Championship, they are looking to build on that success with a second-straight title and a deeper run into the NCAA Tournament.
The reigning SUNYAC champs open the season hosting Ramapo College on Sept. 1. The last time the two teams played was in 2013 which saw SUNY New Paltz claiming a comfortable, 11-1 victory back in 2013. The Hawks then head to the Oneonta Tournament to face St. Lawrence University and the Utica Pioneers. They are 6-0 against the Saints in their previous matchups over the years with SUNY New Paltz defeating Utica in its last three meetings. The Hawks then travel away to play the St. John Fisher College Cardinals on Sept. 10 before a stretch of home games beginning with Skidmore College and the University of Rochester on Sept. 14 and Sept. 17, respectively.
SUNY New Paltz begins conference play at home against Oswego State on Sept. 24 at 1 p.m., before going up against top-ranked Kean University. In their last matchup, the Hawks lost 4-1. The team will end their five-home game stretch on Oct. 1 against SUNYAC opponent, The College at Brockport.
On Oct. 22, SUNY New Paltz will travel away to play against rival SUNY Cortland. The Hawks defeated the Red Dragons last season twice, besting the then No. 16 nationally ranked program thanks to goals scored by
Hannah Ackerman,
Jessica Ascencao,
Julia Cummings, and
Shannon Bernhardt in the regular season before earning a 1-0 win in the SUNYAC Championship game with Ackerman scoring the game-winning goal. SUNY New Paltz will then play its final game of the regular season on the road against another regional opponent in Vassar College Oct. 29.
The first round of the SUNYAC Tournament begins Nov. 2 at the first and second seeded teams' fields, with the championship being held at the No. 1 seeded teams' field on Nov. 5.
