#NPHawks Athlete of the Week: Winter, Third Edition

The State University of New York at New Paltz Athlete of the Week poll is back for the Winter 2023 season! We are allowing the fans, students, campus, and the entire Hawks community decide on who should be the #NPHawks Athlete of the Week. Whichever athlete receives the most votes will be featured on nphawks.com and all #NPHawks social media channels.

In the third edition of the winter season, our nominees include, Isaiah Bien-Aise (Men's Basketball), Jenny Walton (Women's Basketball), Brendan Spulnick (Men's Volleyball), Korey Barber (Men's Swimming), and Alexandra Kassian (Women's Swimming).
  • Isaiah Bien-Aise was a crucial part in the Hawks 95-81 win over Cortland this weekend. Bien-Aise helped SUNY New Paltz hand the Red Dragons their third consecutive loss, while scoring 17 points and obtaining nine rebounds. In their second game of the weekend against No. 20 nationally ranked Oswego, Bien-Aise scored 18 points and was the only Hawk to score in the double digits.
  • Jenny Walton was a key contributor to the Hawks winning two crucial SUNYAC games this past weekend. In the first game of the weekend versus Cortland, Walton scored 15 points to help lead SUNY New Paltz to a 71-67 over the previously undefeated Red Dragons. In their second game of the weekend, Walton had 10 points, and three rebounds, resulting in a 74-47 win against Oswego.
  • Brendan Spulnick was awarded UVC Player of the Week because of his performances against top ranked teams this past week. Spulnick had a total of 73 kills in the span of six games, along with 16 aces, 10 blocks and 29 digs. Spulnick helped SUNY New Paltz earn three sweeps, including one against nationally ranked Dominican University. Spulnick's performance also led to a win over the sixth ranked team in the country in North Central College, aiding in the Hawks' 5-1 start during their Midwest Trip.
  • Korey Barber placed first this weekend in two events at the SUNYAC tri-meet in Cortland. Barber took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.65 and in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.52. He also was a part of SUNY New Paltz's 200-yard medley relay team which placed second with a time of 1:42.09. Barber's placement helped the Hawks split against the teams, beating Buffalo State 192-38 but falling to the Red Dragons, 184-92.
  • Alexandra Kassian placed first in the 200-yard backstroke this weekend with a time of 2:37.81 in the SUNYAC tri-meet in Cortland. Kassian also helped her 400-yard freestyle relay team place first with a time of 3:48.63, while also placing first with her 200-yard medley relay team in 1:55.67. Kassian's results led to the Hawks beating Buffalo State 164-86, however they fell short against Cortland.
