Morrisville, NY - The State University of New York at New Paltz saw success today at Morrisville, as they defeated the Mustangs 9-0. This win improves their SUNYAC record to 3-1.
Within the first five minutes of the game, the Hawks were already on the board. Rachel Tama was able to steal away the ball and put it in the back of the net in the third minute, making the score 1-0. Going into the second period SUNY New Paltz had no intention of slowing down, as Amanda Quenneville netted another for the Hawks late in the quarter, after holding possession for most of the time.
Entering the second half of the game, the Hawks finished more of their offensive opportunities. Not even a minute into the third, Miranda Britton scored off an assist from Tama, extending the lead to 3-0. Hannah Ackerman then scored off a penalty shot, quickly followed by a goal tipped in from Ayden Flemming.
The fourth quarter had fewest offensive attempts from the Hawks with only 11 shots, but four goals were successfully netted in the 15 minutes. Danielle Walsh scored off an assist by Katie Singleton in the 46th minute. Ackerman followed with a goal off a drive, and Flemming ended the match with two back-to-back goals, putting the Hawks up 7-0 and giving herself a hat trick for the game.
The Hawks absolutely took control of the game from start to finish. SUNY New Paltz outplayed the Mustangs in every offensive statistical category. The Hawks totaled an impressive 51 shots, with 36 of them being on cage. This was a staggering statistic, as Morrisville was only able to get off two shots, only one being on the net.
The Hawks plan to continue this positive momentum into their next competitions. They will face Hartwick on Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
