Moran Named to Second SUNYAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly winners Monday with Hawks senior back Sam Moran earning her second weekly conference honor after setting an all-time program record this past weekend.

Named to her second SUNYAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award with the first coming on Oct. 3, Moran set a program record after tallying her 11th career defensive save in a 2-1 double overtime win over Geneseo Saturday, which helped her team solidify the second seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. Moran played every second of the double-overtime victory over the Knights, keeping the opposition to just 10 shots in the win.

The Manorville, NY native also played the full 60 minutes in a 4-2 victory over Hartwick earlier in the week, holding the visiting Hawks to just 10 shots.

Moran currently leads the team with six defensive saves on the year, which is tied for second most in single-season history only behind Jessica Ascencao who had 10 in 2021.

SUNY New Paltz is back on North Turf Field Wednesday, hosting SUNY Oneonta at 3:30 p.m.
