The State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's swimming team prepares to jump back in for their third meet in row, traveling Friday to Garden City, NY where the Hawks will face off against Adelphi University. This swim meet will be hosted by the Panthers.
Adelphi University's men's team is currently riding a wave being undefeated so far at 2-0. While on the women's side they are sitting at a split of 2-2.
SUNY New Paltz is coming fresh off weeks of tough back-to-back practices and competitions, where the men took second and women took third at the Cortland Pumpkin Relay and both teams had a close meet against Union College. The Hawks are looking to push themselves in their upcoming meet against Adelphi.
Some worthy mentions for heading into the meet on the women's side are sophomore
Amanda O'Brien (Bellmore, NY) swimming the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:30.82), 50-yard breaststroke (36.29), and the 200-yard freestyle relay (28.49). Next up is freshman
Erin Donovan (Middletown, NY) swimming freestyle in the 200-yard medley relay (27.84), 50-yard breaststroke (37.30), along with swimming the 100-yard breaststroke where her best time is a 1 minute, 17.51 seconds. Finally, freshman
Sage Vadney (Fairport, NY) will compete in the 50-yard backstroke both individually and as a part of the 200-yard medley relay with a best time of 31.28. Vadney will also swim the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.38), as well as the 200-yard individual medley (2:30.61).
Headliners of the Hawks men's team for the dual meet are junior
Samuel Debbie (Ithaca, NY) who will be swimming the 200-yard IM (2:10.24), the 50-yard butterfly (27.63), and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.58). Next is newcomer freshman
Jack Wirth (Victor, NY) who will swim the 50-yard backstroke both individually and in the 200-tard medley relay, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 24.73, 50.76 and 23.46, respectively. Finally for the men is junior
Xavier Calderon (Bayside, NY) who will compete in the 50-yard breaststroke individually and in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 28.03, along in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.09) and 200-yard IM (2:10.20).
"We have been beat down and crushed and I think that's exactly how we need to be going into this meet," said SUNY New Paltz senior captain
Mason Kennedy. "The results will come later we're not worried about that right now; this is the time to really put our caps on and grind."
SUNY New Paltz is pumped up and ready to go to Garden City, NY and compete against the hosting Adelphi University Panthers at 4 p.m. Friday.
