SUNY New Paltz Men's Basketball Weekend Preview: Geneseo & Brockport

For the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team, the season all comes down to the next two weekends.

Playing their final two regular season home games in the friendly confines of the Hawk Center, the Hawks host Geneseo on Friday evening and SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon before completing their regular season with a trip to the North Country the following weekend. All four games has significant implications on postseason aspirations for SUNY New Paltz.

"We know where we are and where we can be as a team," said Hawks senior guard Brandon Scott. "We just got to be able to put into a good, solid 40 minutes of just playing hard and playing every possession like it's our last."

SUNY New Paltz last met on the Knights Jan. 23 at Geneseo's Schrader Gym, where the hosts eked out a 66-65 win over the visiting Hawks to increase their series record over SUNY New Paltz to 49-25. Last weekend, Geneseo hosted Plattsburgh on Friday evening, losing to the Cardinals 76-72 but bounced back Saturday afternoon to edge the Potsdam Bears 74-70.

The Golden Eagles defeated SUNY New Paltz on its home court a month prior in a tight game, 82-79, giving Brockport an all-time series lead of 55-14 over the Hawks.

"I've seen a lot of growth in myself. I felt like I was always capable of playing really well and being a good teammate and leader," Scott said. "I'm not surprised at where I'm at right now. It took a long time to get here, but me and Zay put the work in and the whole team, and the whole program put the work in and we're reaping our benefits. As long as we just stay together, play well as a team we should be all good."

The Hawks will honor Scott and Bien-Aise, the two lone seniors on the squad who both entered the program ahead of the 2018-19 season, Saturday prior to tip-off with the Golden Eagles. The two helped turn the program that earned a playoff bid last season for the first time in nearly a decade.

"Me and Zay got here in the fall of 2018 and it's been a long, long time in New Paltz," Scott said. "We've both come a long way. The team and the program has come a long way as well and we're happy to be a part of this and just be able to play and get a title hopefully."

Tip-off Friday evening is 7:30 p.m. against the Knights and Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against the Golden Eagles in the Hawk Center.
