Annandale, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz defeated Bard College Wednesday night in three sets, 25-13, 25-17, 25-17.
The No. 8 nationally ranked Hawks dominated in every statistical category en route to its 12th win of the year. They out-hit the Raptors, .386-.024 and totaled more points (46-16), kills (34-13), aces (9-2), blocks (3-1), assists (29-13) and digs (15-9).
SUNY New Paltz played its bench throughout the match who took care of Bard early. Ahead 11-8 in the first set, the Hawks went on a 12-1 run with
Evan Kane serving through most of the stretch and totaling three aces to push his team up, 23-9.
Teddy Teraszkiewicz pushed the period to set point on a kill off an assist by
Dan LaRosa with the Raptors sealing SUNY New Paltz a one-set lead on a serving error.
Bard aced in the opening serve of set two, but the Hawks countered with five-straight points and never trailed again in the second. They built a 10-point cushion, thanks to three consecutive kills by Teraszkiwicz and earned set point following a serving error by the Raptors with
Mike Handell acing on the final point to push the match to 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
The third went back and forth before SUNY New Paltz slowly piled onto an eight-point cushion thanks to a 4-0 run served through by
Matt Teplansky. An ace by the freshman gave the Hawks a 20-12 lead with the Raptors pushing the game to match point following a service error at 24-15, and ultimately another service error ended the day in favor of the Hawks, 25-17.
Teraszkiewicz had a career-day as he led his team in kills (10) and points (10), while hitting .692 with one assist and four digs. Teplansky followed with seven kills, hitting .500 with two aces and three digs with Hadnell adding five kills, two aces and a block. LaRosa was the benefactor, totaling a game-high 27 assists with an ace and a dig.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Sunday in the Hawk Center for its first United Volleyball Conference action of the year against No. 9 Nazareth College. The Hawks will celebrate its four graduating seniors prior to the game in LaRosa,
Kyle Shaffer,
Brendan Spulnick and
John Ronan.
First serve between the Hawks and Golden Flyers is set for 12 p.m.
