SUNY New Paltz Women's Tennis Falls 9-0 to Hardin-Simmons

Orlando, FL — The State University of New York at New Paltz opened up its spring break trip to Florida Monday with a 9-0 loss to Hardin-Simmons University.

Playing at the USTA National Campus, the Hawks faced a tough Cowboys team. They lost at first and third doubles, 8-2 and 8-1, respectively with Onalee Batcheller and Tatiana Barnett winning three points at second doubles but falling, 8-3.

SUNY New Paltz fell at first singles, 6-0, 6-2 second singles, 6-1, 6-2, third singles, 6-2, 6-1, fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1 with the Hawks having tight matches at fifth and sixth singles. Isabel van der Veen lost her first set to Hardin-Simmons' Priscilla Schimming, 6-3 and then dropped the second, 6-2. Amirah Alson narrowly extended her match against Jonnah Smith to a third set but lost, 6-2, 6-4.

"A good first performance of the season against a very strong team from Texas," said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "A strong match to start off the spring season. Our doubles performed strongly, and the scores don't reflect how hard they worked and played."

The Hawks are back on the court Tuesday, competing against Colby-Sawyer at 6 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
