Box Score 2 Union, NJ — The State University of New York at New Paltz Baseball split a doubleheader on Friday on the road in neighboring New Jersey. The Hawks collected a 2-1 victory over Kean University in the first game and dropped the second game 1-3 to the host Cougars.
In the first game the Hawks struck first with a run scored by Matt Sarni off of a single up the middle by Fabian Apicella during the fourth inning. Kean would tie the game during the sixth inning, but the hawks would reclaim the lead in the seventh. Tommy Kreider would score the winning run off a single to the right center field by Christopher Sais. In the second game Kean scored early in the second inning scoring all three of their runs. Jordan Rios would score in the eighth inning off a hit by Tommy Kreider but the rally would stop there and the Hawks split the day's doubleheader with Kean.
The win Friday improved the Hawks to 3-6 through the early non-conference portion of their schedule. The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, March 22, for a doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary's College. The games will be played at the Duchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, NY at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM respectively.
