SUNY New Paltz Women's Lacrosse Falls 11-5 to Oswego

Oswego, NY — The State University of New York at  New Paltz lost its first SUNYAC game of the season Saturday on the road to Oswego State, 11-5.
 
The Hawks (4-3 overall, 0-1 SUNYAC) were up 5-3 at halftime, but were shutout in the second with the hosting Lakers scoring eight unanswered in the final two quaters including five in the third to earn the win.
 
SUNY New Paltz took its first lead early in the second quarter on a goal by Morgan Atwater. Following a save by Gabriella Tommaso and a draw control win by Oswego, Julia Longo capitalized with a score less than two minutes later to bring the lead to 4-2. Camryn Ryder cleaned up in front of goal with six minutes left following a free position that gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 5-2 with the Lakers answering a minute later following a failed clear by SUNY New Paltz.
 
The second half was all Lakers as they scored off a free position three minutes in. They tied the score with 9:32 left and then added on two minutes later to take the lead after another failed clear by the Hawks.

SUNY New Paltz struggled to clear the ball in the second half, going 4-for-8 after a positive 8-for-10 rate in the first half. Oswego also held the advantage on ground balls, 25-10, turnovers 18-24 and draw controls, 11-9, including 6-for-12 in the second half.
 
Atwater led the team with two goals on eight shots with a ground ball, caused turnover and draw control win. Shannon Brosnan, Longo and Ryder rounded out the Hawks' goal scorers. Brosnan also added a team-high four draws and three caused turnovers. Ella Malanga added three caused turnovers and two ground balls defensively, while Tommaso finished with eight saves in goal.
 
SUNY New Paltz continue SUNYAC play Wednesday when it hosts SUNY Plattsburgh on North Turf Field at 4 p.m.
