New Paltz, NY —In just her second competitive season,
Brianna Fitzgerald has cemented herself as one of the best in the country.
The State University of New York at New Paltz junior guard/forward capped off a dominant year two by earning Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American honorable mention as well as D3Hoops Third-Team All-American, announced this past week.
Fitzgerald becomes just the fifth Hawk in program history to earn All-American honors, the fifth selected to the WBCA honorable mention team and second to D3Hoops, joining 2019 alumna Lindsay Bettke. Fitzgerald is also the only non-senior to earn the accolade for the Hawks, as she builds her resume into one of the best to ever play for the storied program.
The Dix Hills, NY native led her team in virtually every statistical category this past season, as she was the catalyst in driving the Hawks to a regional ranking and at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament where the team earned a second-round appearance.
Fitzgerald never missed a game, playing in all 29 with 28 starts. She led her team in minutes played (818), minutes per game (28.2), field goals made (163), points (460), points per game (15.9), rebounds (209), rebounds per game (7.2), assists (83), steals (66) and blocks (18). Fitzgerald landed near the top in single-season points, only behind fellow former All-American Rachel Simon (521).
After being named First-Team All-SUNYAC, SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, D3Hoops Region III Rookie of the Year and D3Hoops Second-Team All-Region last season, Fitzgerald became just the second Hawk (joining Bettke) to be awarded as the SUNYAC Player of the Year, along with garnering first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season. She then became just the second in program history to land First-Team All-Region honors before cementing an already illustrious legacy as WBCA and D3Hoops All-American.
Only 25 players across the country land on the D3Hoops All-American squad, five per four-teams. Fitzgerald was the only representative from the SUNYAC to make the list. Ten are selected to WBCA All-American honors, while 40 were named honorable mention.
