SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Releases 2023-24 Schedule

Entering his 17th season at the helm of SUNY New Paltz women's basketball, head coach Jamie Seward once again put together a challenging 25 game schedule for the 2023-24 edition of the Hawks.

In addition to playing the highly competitive 18 game SUNYAC schedule, the Hawks will face seven challenging non-conference foes to begin the 2023-24 season. All seven of these opponents saw postseason action in 2022-23, including two which made it into NCAA DIII tournament play.

SUNY New Paltz opens the 2023-24 season with a three-game home stand, beginning Nov. 11 against Union College, a team the Hawks defeated last season. On Nov. 14, SUNY New Paltz will host regionally ranked Vassar College, a team which nipped the Hawks 59-58 a year ago. The home stand concludes against another Hudson Valley rival, Mt. St. Mary College, who lost to the Hawks a year ago.

The Hawks are on the road for their next three contests, starting on Nov. 25, with a trip to Jersey City to take on NJAC finalist and regionally ranked Jersey City State University.
Restarting after the Thanksgiving break, SUNY New Paltz travels west to open its 2023-24 SUNYAC campaign against SUNY Geneseo Dec. 1 and SUNY Brockport Dec. 2. The Hawks defeated the Knights and Golden Eagles twice last year, and defeated Geneseo again in the SUNYAC semifinals.

The Hawks return home for a single game before the holidays, hosting No. 23 ranked Ithaca College in the Hawk Center Dec. 9. The last time SUNY New Paltz met the Bombers in the regular season was a loss in 1996-97, but the most recent meeting came in the 2016-17 NCAA DIII Regional where the Hawks defeated Ithaca 83-80 to earn a trip to the DIII Sweet 16.

SUNY New Paltz rounds out 2023 on Dec. 29-30 at the Stevens Institute of Technology Holiday Tournament in Hoboken, NJ. The Hawks open against No. 2 nationally ranked and last year's national runner up Christopher Newport University. The Captains won 31 straight games a year ago before falling 52-57 to Transylvania University in the national championship. Depending on the outcome of the game, the Hawks will face either regionally ranked Stevens Institute or Middlebury College. The Hawks last met Stevens in 2013-14, losing to the Ducks. If SUNY New Paltz face the Panthers, it will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The 2024 part of the season begins a 16 game span against SUNYAC competition as the Hawks look to earn a spot in the SUNYAC postseason for the ninth-straight season.

SUNY New Paltz hosts SUNY Oneonta at home Jan. 6; the Hawks bested the Dragons twice last season. On Jan. 9 the Hawks are home against regional ranked SUNY Cortland, a team SUNY New Paltz defeated twice in the regular season a year ago but were upset by the Red Dragons in the SUNYAC championship game.

January 12-13 sees the team traveling to Western New York for a weekend matchup against SUNY Fredonia and Buffalo State; the Hawks downed the Blue Devils and the Bengals twice last year.

Three home games follow. On Jan. 16, SUNY New Paltz faces Oswego and on Jan. 19-20 the Hawks entertain SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh. The Hawks completed series sweeps over the Lakers, Bears, and Cardinals a year ago.

A short road trip to SUNY Cortland follows on Jan. 23, followed by a weekend homestand on Jan. 26-27 against Buffalo State University and SUNY Fredonia. Another brief trip to Central New York Jan. 30 sees the Hawks complete their series against Oswego.

SUNY New Paltz concludes the home portion of its 2023-24 season with a weekend matchup against SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo Feb. 2-3. Three road games against SUNY Oneonta Feb. 10 and a North Country excursion Feb. 16-17 at SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam finish out the Hawks regular and SUNYAC seasons.

First round of the SUNYAC tournament begins Feb. 20 with the semifinal and final rounds set for Feb. 23-24. The NCAA Division III Tournament then looms with first round games starting March 1.
