Saratoga Springs, NY — It was an eventful day for the State University of New York at New Paltz Field Hockey team as it battled against Skidmore College, beating the Thoroughbreds 5-4.
The Hawks offense was fervent, coming out with six shots on net and totaling 20 for the game. In the first quarter, Skidmore struck first with a goal off a corner, but SUNY New Paltz was quick to retaliate by putting one in four minutes later. Morgan Woolley assisted Amanda Quenneville for the first goal of the game, and her third goal of the season. Not long after Miranda Britton added another point for the Hawks off a corner from Hannah Ackerman.
The second quarter contained three almost back-to-back goals. Skidmore tied the game in the 20th minute, and not even a minute later Britton scored her second goal of the match putting the Hawks up 3-2, until another goal a minute later from Skidmore tied the game once again. At the beginning of the third the Thoroughbreds were able to put another shot in the back of the net putting them up 4-3.
SUNY New Paltz was determined to take this game, and pushed on the offensive front, having 11 shots in the fourth with nine being on net. Britton tied the score unassisted in the 48th minute, followed by a quick goal by Rachel Tama, putting the Hawks up one. SUNY New Paltz was able to fend off the Thoroughbreds and were victorious when the buzzer sounded with a score of 5-4.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, traveling to the University of Rochester to face the Yellowjackets at 11 a.m., intending on adding another victory to their undefeated record.
