Troy, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz took a hard 2-1 loss Sunday on the road at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a competitive match until the end.
The Engineers got on the board in just the second minute with a goal by Veronica Martinez de Pinillos, which then followed with a scoring drought throughout the next 80 minutes of play. Despite SUNY New Paltz's best defensive efforts, RPI snuck one in in the 89th, making the score 2-1 and eventually going on to win the match bringing the Hawks record to 1-1.
SUNY New Paltz totaled six shots on goal and out-shot the Engineers 15-11 in the game. Maddie Franklin recorded five saves in net for the Hawks.
The Hawks are on the road again in their next match Wednesday at Montclair State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
