Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly winners Tuesday with Hawks junior
Yare Harris earning men's soccer offensive athlete of the week honors in his debut performance.
Transferring from Monroe College this fall, Harris had an explosive opening two games of his SUNY New Paltz career as he led the team offensively. He made an immediate impact up top, as the striker finished with three goals and forced two set pieces that allowed the Hawks to capitalize on the offensive end en route to capturing the Drew Fall Festival Tournament title.

Earning the start against the hosting Rangers, Harris drew both fouls that led to goals in a comeback 2-1 win. The first came in the 69th minute on a free kick just outside the box, which SUNY New Paltz put away to tie the game at 1-1 and then Harris was taken down in the box in the 77 th, leading to a game-winning penalty to help capture the season opening win. Harris then broke out in the Hawks' 4-0 rout of Saint Elizabeth University on Sunday, scoring the first hat-trick for the program since Kevin Doorley did so in 2018 to end the weekend atop the Hawks leaderboard in points and be named as the tournament's offensive MVP.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Wednesday for its home opener, hosting Lehman College on South Turf Field at 5 p.m.
