NEW PALTZ, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swim teams were at home in Elting pool for their first contest of the new year. The Hawks played host to SUNY Cortland for a SUNYAC dual meet. The visiting Red Dragons swept the team competition claiming first place for the men and the women by scores 149-113 and 153-102 respectively.
Korey Barber and Luke Hoyt claimed first and second place in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:52.50 and 1:53.73, respectively. Antonio Vavalle finished first in the100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.12. Vavalle also finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:35.36. Venn Engstrom finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.01. Engstrom would also finish fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Jack Samko finished in third place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.10. Jack Wirth took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.78. Wirth would go on to finish second in the 200-yard backstroke as well with a time of 2:09.62, Steven Macaluso finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.97. Luke Hoyt finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:19.74. Antonio Vavalle finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.96. The men finished first in the 200-yard medley relay (Jack Wirth, Venn Engstrom, Steven Macaluso, and Jack Samko) in a time of 1:93.92. The men would also finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Jack Samko, Luke Hoyt, Venn Engstrom, and Steven Macaluso) in a time of 1:93.92.

Sierra DePry finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.28 in prelims. DePry was followed in the 200-yard freestyle by teammate Abigail Dusseault in second place with a time of 2:11.22. Abigail Dusseault would also claim second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.16. Sage Vadney claimed second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.30. Vadney would also clain third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:29.02. Shannon Corr took second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:19.17. Corr would also finish second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.43. Candella Sandoval (2:29.96), Angelina Somma (2:34.58), and Taylor Pazderski (2:52.0) would place second, third, and fourth respectively in the 200-yard butterfly. Erin Donovan finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:53.45. Sierra DePry finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.33. Amanda O'Brien finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:05.30. O'Brien would also finish second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.11. Candella Sandoval and Hannah Fisher took first and second place in the 200-yard IM with times of 2:30.37 and 2:44.710, respectively. The women finished third in the 200-yard medley relay (Sage Vadney, Shannon Corr, Candela Sandoval, and Sierra DePry) with a time of 2:04.80. The women would finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Chloe Jeffares, Abigail Keiser, Erin Donovan, and Sierra DePry) with a time of 1:52.91.
