New Paltz, NY — State University of New York at New Paltz senior guard/forward
Brianna Fitzgerald added more accolades to her already illustrious resume, being named as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Athlete of the Week, along with being named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week.
Fitzgerald averaged 26 points, 12 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game on the weekend after leading the Hawks to two wins in the Stevens Holiday Tournament in Hoboken, NJ this past weekend, including against then No. 3 nationally ranked Christopher Newport along with NESCAC's Middlebury College.
Fitzgerald scored a game-high 27 points with a team-high 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 73-69 upset win over the Captains before registering a game-high 25 points with a team-high 13 rebounds with three steals and two assists in a 54-51 victory over the Panthers the following day. She recorded her fourth double-double on the season in the performance while also surpassing the 1,000-career point threshold, becoming the first Hawk to do so in just three seasons.
The Bethpage, NY native was awarded her second SUNYAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor after the weekend before being recognized nationally.
The USBWA selects a male and female Division III basketball player every Tuesday to highlight their respective performance on the week. The USBWA has announced national weekly performers for the last nine seasons with Fitzgerald becoming the first Hawk recognized.
D3hoops.com selects five Division III women's basketball players across the country each week to their D3Hoops Team of the Week with this year being the 27th season of the accolade, recognizing top performances in the nation.
