New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz celebrated its senior day with a runaway 11-0 win against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos.
"My heart is so full with love and gratitude towards this team," said senior captain
Maddie Franklin. "There is so much care and camaraderie between everyone [and] I truly think we will achieve anything we set our minds to."
The shutout honored the Class of 2025 seniors, including Franklin,
Gaby Treble,
Parris Burke,
Maggie Cameron,
Hannah Pugliese,
Alexis DeLeo,
Emma Voege, and
Rachel Eisert.
"This senior class is incredibly special on so many levels," said Hawks coach
Mike Eckberg. "They want the best from themselves and their peers every single day that they've been part of our program.
In its most dominant showing this season, SUNY New Paltz took 21 shots in the first half alone, compared to only one from SUNY Canton. In total, the Hawks fired 38 attempts with 24 on target, while the Roos finished with the singular shot.
"This season means everything to the Class of 2025 and this team," said Eisert. "We have worked tirelessly to put ourselves in the best position possible to end our season with a SUNYAC trophy."
Treble started the offensive tear, and in the first minute, found the upper left corner of the net from the top of the box for SUNY New Paltz's first goal of the match. Ten minutes later, Treble was followed up by fellow senior Eisert, who buried a shot off an assist by
Erin Savarese to elevate the Hawks' lead, 2-0.
SUNY New Paltz's offense was in full swing, and in the 20th minute, Eisert struck again. The forward dribbled around numerous SUNY Canton defenders before she found space in the box to cross the ball into the right corner of cage. Not even two minutes later, Deleo followed through on a loose ball in the Roos' box to net the Hawks' fourth of the match.
Kennedy Jones put another one in for SUNY New Paltz in the 30th minute when she finished a pass through the six-yard box from
Alyssa Deutsch. With less than 15 minutes left, the Hawks were up with a 5-0 lead, but they did not settle.

With less than two minutes remaining,
Brooke Kelleher powered through a loose ball in SUNY Canton's defensive end, and found
Ashley O'Hara inside. O'Hara tapped the ball into the net to earn her first goal of the season shortly before the buzzer sounded to end the half.
The Hawks entered the second just as determined as they did in the first. Only seconds into the half, Burke chipped a shot in from just outside of the six for her first of the season as well. Soon after, in the 47th minute,
Mia Baldinger sent a through ball up to Eisert near the top of the box. Eisert ran through and shot the ball past the Roos keeper to earn her second goal of the game, and the Hawks' 8th unanswered point.
Seconds later,
Laney Schmitz serviced Treble in the center of the 18-yard box, where she dodged the keeper and buried a shot, also for her second goal of the game. After Treble's goal, SUNY New Paltz scored three goals, in under three minutes.
The Hawks did not score again until the 75th minute, where Kelleher chipped in a ball deflected off a SUNY Canton defender which pushed the Hawks to a double-digit lead, 10-0.
Six minutes later,
Abby Macleod buried the final goal of the match into the center of the frame, as she struck through a deflected ball from a prior shot by
Abby Dolge. In the 10 minutes left, the Roos could not rally to put up a goal, and the match ended in a SUNY New Paltz senior day shutout.
"From day one, [the senior class] has pursued the next level and been relentless at demanding excellence from everyone," said Eckberg. "What makes it all too bittersweet is that they are unbelievable human beings, genuinely sincere, selfless, and then on top of all of that they are incredible students. It's a special day for them, it's a special day for our program and we're grateful for their never-ending commitment to New Paltz women's soccer,"
Eisert led with three goals, followed by Treble who netted two. Burke, Deleo, Jones, Kelleher, O'Hara, and Macleod all had one goal. Franklin recorded 45 minutes in net, followed by
Jess Centeri with 25 and
Madelyn Jachimiak with 20.
"This week was a great opportunity for us to think creatively and showcase the blood sweat and tears that go into training every week," said Eisert. "We are so excited to keep pushing forward as a unit going into the last few games of conference play."
"We just need to continue to focus on what's ahead of us and complete our checklist step by step," said Franklin. "There is so much work left to be done and so many memories to look forward to making"
The Hawks continue SUNYAC play Wednesday when they will host the Plattsburgh Cardinals. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
