SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Earns 7-0 Shutout Against Morrisville

Hawks dominate the Mustangs in runaway victory.

Morrisville, NY — The Hawks could not be stopped.

After a crucial SUNYAC victory against Fredonia, The State University of New York New Paltz boosted its confidence further with a 7-0 victory against the Morrisville Mustangs Wednesday.

SUNY New Paltz controlled the game from start to finish and bested the hosts in every statistical category  — which included a total of 29 shots taken compared to Morrisville's four attempts.

Only three minutes into the first half, the Hawks netted their first of the match. Alexis DeLeo set up Rachel Eisert on the top of the box, where Eisert ripped a shot into the back of the net to put one on the board for SUNY New Paltz, and it was full steam ahead from there.

Six minutes later, Mia Baldinger took her turn, and the junior tapped in a low ball for the Hawks' second goal of the match. Assisted by Emma Voege, the goal was Baldingers first of the season. Mere seconds later, SUNY New Paltz struck again, as Brooke Kelleher found Eisert at the top right corner of the box where Eisert knocked the pass into the middle of the frame for her second of the game.

Following two consecutive missed shots by the Hawks, Gaby Treble was the one to connect, as the senior scored an unassisted shot right in the top left bin in the 16th minute. Treble kept to that side, and six minutes later, she buried a goal in the low left corner of the net to elevate SUNY New Paltz to a 5-0 lead.

With a more than comfortable margin ahead of the Mustangs, the Hawks stood strong as the clock dwindled in the first half. But, with less than five minutes remaining, Jillian John found Abby Macleod in the six-yard box, and Macleod finished for her first goal as a Hawk and allowed John her first career assist. SUNY New Paltz soon soared into halftime with a padded 6-0 lead.

For the second half, the Hawks only tacked one more goal onto what was their largest lead of the season — and it was netted once again from Macleod.

In the 68th minute, Macleod found space on the right side of the box and blasted the ball into the top left corner for her second goal of the game, and her career. The Hawks held a hefty 7-0 lead, which remained unbroken as Morrisville could not rally in the next twenty minutes to put in a goal, and the match ended as a glorious Wednesday shutout for SUNY New Paltz.

Eisert, Macleod, and Treble led the Hawks with two goals a piece, followed by Baldinger who earned one, while DeLeo, John, Kelleher, and Voege dished out one assist each. Freshman Jess Centeri took the starting spot in net and split the shutout with sophomore Madelyn Jachimiak, who gathered SUNY New Paltz's one save in the 64th minute.

"In the few moments that were necessary today, our goalkeepers stepped up, [and] I am extremely proud of how they pursue their craft every single day," said Hawks coach Mike Eckberg. "Maddie, MJ, and Jess push new limits in our training environment, and MJ showcased that today. She played with an unparalleled passion and focused mentality."

SUNY New Paltz return home for its senior game as it faces off against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos. Kickoff is at 12 p.m.
