Montclair, NJ — For the first time all season the State University of New York at New Paltz, with one of the most explosive offenses in the country through 14 games, was shutout as the Hawks suffered a 1-0 loss against hosting Montclair State.
SUNY New Paltz dropped its second straight Tuesday night, both coming on the road, as the Red Hawks held the visiting Hawks to its second-lowest shot total (10) and season-low shots-on-goal (6).
Rachel Tama led SUNY New Paltz with seven shots, three of which were on target with
Hannah Ackerman,
Miranda Britton and
Amanda Quenneville all registering one. Meanwhile, the team had one of its best defensive outings, holding off Montclair through 20 minutes with the hosts out-shooting the Hawks by two with two more penalty corners in the game (7-5).
Madison Orsini got her first start of her career in goal for SUNY New Paltz and made six saves in a full 60 minutes of action.
Morgan Woolley helped out by registering her third defensive save of the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Hawks found the back of the cage six minutes into the second period, which came unassisted by Bella Heiser in the run of play.
The Hawks kept Montclair without a shot in the third but couldn't capitalize on their chances in the final 30 minutes despite garnering three corners in the final two quarters.
SUNY New Paltz falls to 12-3 overall with all three losses coming on the road. The Hawks look to rebound in their biggest regular season game of the season Saturday, as they hit the road once again to face No. 8 nationally ranked Cortland. Both teams are unbeaten in the SUNYAC with the winner clinching the top seed and hosting duties in the conference tournament.
