New Paltz, NY — The NCAA announced its second official regional rankings of the year, ranked not by alphabetical order, but from one through seven in each region with the State University of New York at New Paltz at the top spot in region III.
Named in the original rankings, which were released and listed alphabetically last weekend, the updated poll released Feb. 11 listed the Hawks first in their region with Vassar, Skidmore, Ithaca, St. John Fisher, Nazareth and Cortland following, respectively.
SUNY New Paltz is currently enjoying a 12-game winning streak after earning back-to-back road victories over Buffalo State and Oneonta this past weekend. The two triumphs official clinched the top seed in the conference for the second-straight year for the Hawks and also solidified the program's fifth-consecutive 20-win season.
Named as the best team in the region with one week left of the regular season, SUNY New Paltz earned top-20 victories over Christopher Newport and Vassar College, along with regional wins over Cortland and Middlebury (region I). The Hawks three losses came early in the year, falling to New Jersey City and Ithaca College, along with the opening game against the Red Dragons Jan. 9.
SUNY New Paltz has two games left on its regular season schedule, as it travels to face SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam to conclude its series with the two programs Friday and Saturday, respectively. The team will then have a bye into the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament where they will play Feb. 23 in the Hawk Center with the championship game following Feb. 24 in the Hawk Center at 4 p.m.
