Chicopee, MA – The State University of New York at New Paltz ended the week strong securing wins over No. 20 Lasell University and Elms College Saturday at the Elms Tri-Match. The Hawks improved to 12-7 overall after the two wins.
SUNY New Paltz had a strong start to the day, beating the Lasers 3-1 (35-37, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20).
Pat Wing led the Hawks offensively with 25 kills, three aces, and five blocks, with
Christopher Larkin and
AJ Fitzgerald contributing 10 apiece.
Matt Marusza led the team in assists with 48, allowing Wing, Larkin, and Fitzgerald to all put up big numbers. After the close lost in the first set (35-37), SUNY New Paltz, battled back to sweep the next three sets to secure the win.
The Hawks used their momentum from the first match win over Lasell, to secure another win for the day over the Bolts. Freshman,
Michael Speigel and
Patrick Soulias were pivotal in securing the win, with Speigel having 12 kills, and Soulias contributing 17 assists, and two aces.
Matt Teplansky and
Geoff Ndoria added eight kills to the total, with
Mike Handell leading the team in aces and blocks. These performances from the underclassmen led to a 3-0(25-20, 25-20, 25-21) win over Elms.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. versus Misericordia in the Hawk Center.
