New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz's historic start continued Wednesday, as the Hawks improved to 7-0 after a 22-5 rout of visiting Manhattanville College.
The game was highlighted by record-breaking performances, as senior
Kaitlyn Shaw became the program's new singe game points and goals record holder, as she finished with a career-high nine goals with three assists for a career-high 12 points.
Mia Baldinger also set a program record with a career-high eight assists, while also finishing with 11 points, second-most ever only to Shaw with both surpassing the old mark of 10 held by alums Amy Hofer (April 8, 2021 versus Potsdam) and Talia Tesler (April 11, 2013 versus Ramapo).
SUNY New Paltz had its way with the Valiants, dominating in shots (31-17), turnovers (13-23), ground balls (24-11) and caused turnovers (14-6).
Shaw gave the Hawks the early advantage, finishing on a feed from
Ava Padilla two minutes into the game. Baldinger then added on two minutes later, capitalizing on a free position opportunity, but Manhattanville cut the cushion in half after scoring its first of the day with eight minutes left in the quarter.

The Valiants won the ensuing draw, but
Amy Whitman forced a turnover and transitioned the other way resulting in a goal by Shaw, assisted by Baldinger which ignited a 5-0 run to end the period with Padilla finding
Morgan Atwater to cap the surge and give the Hawks a 7-1 lead.
SUNY New Paltz rolled from there, as Atwater scored back-to-back goals off feeds from
Lu Clark and Padilla before Clark added onto the score following a draw control win by Shaw. Baldinger won the next draw and
Samantha DeLucca joined the offensive onslaught, scoring a man-up goal off an assist from Baldinger to keep the clock moving for the rest of the game with 10 minutes left in the second quarter.
The Hawks held a 15-1 lead at halftime with Baldinger finding Shaw in the final seconds to extend the advantage. The duo then capped the 16-0 run with about seven minutes to go in the third quarter with Baldinger again finding Shaw on a cut in front of cage to bring the lead to 18-1. The Valiants got on the board after winning the ensuing draw, then added on in the final minute to create a 19-3 difference.
After Shaw netted another to open up the fourth, Manhattanville scored back-to-back to finish its offensive night. With Shaw and Baldinger still needing a goal and assist to officially break the goal and assist record, the two find each other one last time as time expired to solidify the 22-5 outcome and push their names in front of the team's single-game leaders list.
Baldinger led the team in assists, while added three goals, one ground ball, one caused turnover and a team-leading seven draw controls. Shaw was efficient offensively, as she totaled her nine goals with 10 shots, nine on target, with two ground balls and three draw controls. Atwater followed offensively with five goals, while adding two ground balls and a draw control. Padilla also finished with five points after recording a goal and four assists.
Morgan Woolley led the team defensively, tallying a game-high five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Gabriella Tommaso earned the win in the cage and totaled two stops.
SUNY New Paltz enters SUNYAC play in its next outing, hosting Buffalo State on North Turf Field Saturday at 11 a.m. The Hawks defeated the Bengals last season, 15-3.
