Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Monday with Hawks junior second baseman
Tommy Kreider earning his first athlete of the week recognition following a prolific four-game stint on the week.
Kreider, having an incredible season, bulked up his numbers even further this past week as he helped lead the team to three wins in four games against Maritime and Fredonia where he hit .714 with 10 runs, 10 hits, three extra base hits, two RBI, six walks and three steals, while holding an on-base-percentage of .800 and a slugging percentage of .929.
In a 14-12 extra inning road win over the Privateers Tuesday, Kreider went 3-for-4, including two doubles with three runs scored and an RBI, while slugging 1.250. In a program record setting team performance in game one against visiting Fredonia Friday where the Hawks solidified a 30-2 rout, Kreider was nearly perfect at the plate as he went 4-for-5 with five runs and an RBI.
In game two of the series against Fredonia, SUNY New Paltz produced just four hits, one being Kreider who added a walk while batting .333 in the game with an on-base-percentage of .500. While in an 8-3 game three win, the New City, NY native hit a perfect 2-for-2, including a double with two runs, three walks and a stolen base.
Defensively, Kreider tallied a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, totaling 18 total catches, 11 putouts, seven assists and helped turn two double plays, both pivotal, as it kept the game tied at 12-12 in the eighth inning against Maritime where they later won, and a game-ending double-play in a game three win over the Blue Devils.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action this weekend, going on the road to face Bard Friday and Saturday for a three-game series.
