Syracuse, NY — For the second straight week, seniors
Kaitlyn Shaw and
Morgan Woolley swept conference weekly honors.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday with the Hawks owning both offensive and defensive recipients for the fourth time on the season with the duo of Shaw and Woolley earning the accolade for consecutive weeks, respectively.
Shaw, who claimed her fourth SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Week nod this season, led SUNY New Paltz to its first ever victory over SUNY Brockport Friday, 11-8. She was the catalyst offensively as she produced a game-high six points, leading her team in both goals (4) and points (6), while adding two assists, a ground ball and four draw controls. She scored the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner early in the fourth quarter to break the 7-7 tie, then assisted on a pivotal score three minutes later to create a 10-7 cushion for her team.
Woolley once again was the x-factor defensively for the Hawks Friday. As a team, SUNY New Paltz held the Golden Eagles to just 17 shots in the game, only five of which came in the run of play with the rest off free position attempts. Woolley finished with a game-high five caused turnovers with one ground ball, while setting a new single season caused turnover program record with 35 already on the year, surpassing the previous mark of 31, which was set last year by senior
Ella Malanga. Maybe the biggest play of the game, Woolley came up with a huge caused turnover on a back check with about 1:30 left to solidify the 11-8 win for the Hawks.
The two were instrumental in helping their team to a program record-setting ninth straight win, which tied the most in program history as SUNY New Paltz improved to 9-0 on the year and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
The Hawks resume SUNYAC action this week, going on the road to face Plattsburgh Wednesday and Fredonia Saturday.
