New Paltz, NY — The latest NCAA Division III softball poll was released Wednesday with the State University of New York at New Paltz rising to No. 3 in Region III.
Riding a record-setting 19-game winning streak, the Hawks are just a win away in a pivotal series against reigning SUNYAC Champions SUNY Geneseo in clinching their second-straight regular season conference title and top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. The boast a 28-4 record overall and are 14-0 in the SUNYAC with their only losses coming against Pacific Lutheran, Smith College, No. 1 nationally ranked Salisbury and Farmingdale State.
SUNY New Paltz sits only behind the University of Rochester, which, like the SUNY New Paltz, are receiving top-25 votes in the latest NFCA national poll, and RPI who were ranked No. 15 in the country by NFCA. Following the Hawks in Region III are St. John Fisher, Alfred, SUNY Cortland and the Rams of Farmingdale.
SUNY New Paltz concludes its regular season schedule on the road this weekend, facing the Knights in a doubleheader series Friday before ending with a doubleheader Saturday against Brockport. The Hawks have never finished undefeated in SUNYAC play, but have the opportunity with four more wins, and in doing so would also notch them the most wins ever in program history, surpassing last year's total of 31 after going 31-13 on the year.
