New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz officially broke ground on the $4.2 million project to renovate and enhance North Turf Field this past month.

The project got underway midway through May as the spring season came to a close with sights set on completing the first half of construction for the new turf in August with fully renovated bathrooms eying to be during the fall 2024 semester.

Total amount estimated for the project is upwards of $4.2 million invested with $600 thousand of unrestricted funds issued as well. A part of the plan is a new turf lined for men's and women's lacrosse, soccer and field hockey, along with a press box and bleachers with bathrooms attached, which will be located on the North side of the field parallel to the North Tennis Courts.

"The Athletic Wellness and Recreation Department brought their best game to the design and construction field," said Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Operations Gail Beltrone. "It's a pleasure to support projects that can lead to such undeniable wins for our students."

The enhancements not only will bring an addition to the Hawks varsity programs but provide an upgraded facility to be utilized for Wellness & Recreation events as well.

 

"The North Turf renovation project is a game changer for SUNY New Paltz. We're excited for our students," said SUNY New Paltz Director of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation.

The Hawks came off an unprecedented 2023-24 year, clinching five SUNYAC titles with all but two programs making the postseason tournament. The updated facility not only aims to benefit the large student population as a whole but promote the University's success as well.

"Students needed an updated North Turf Field and the Athletic, Wellness and Recreation Department successfully advocated to make this a priority," Beltrone said. "With dedicated passion to projects that markedly improve our student services, the AWR Department helps the campus shine."
