New Paltz, NY — The Hawks return, and this time, to take it all.
The State University of New York at New Paltz's schedule is set for their 2024 campaign. Coming off a successful 14-5 season and running up to the SUNYAC title, coach Shanna Szablinski returns nearly the entirety of her roster to compete for the conference championship this season. With a difficult schedule this year, SUNY New Paltz will be more than prepared heading into the postseason.
During the season's first week, the Hawks host both Pace University and Adelphi University, facing the Setters on Aug. 22 and the Panthers on Aug. 24. It will be a challenging two matches, as both programs are Division Two schools.
On Aug. 30, the team travels to Utica to face the Pioneers and will stay to face St. Lawrence the following day. SUNY New Paltz defeated both teams in the Hawks Tournament last year.
The following Saturday, Sep. 7, the Hawks host Ithaca College on the North Turf. The Bombers, a consistently talented team, finished 24th in the national rankings for Division Three last season. SUNY New Paltz continues to face competitive competition in the subsequent days, playing Skidmore on Sep. 11 and traveling to Endicott on Sep. 14. The Gulls are another nationally ranked competitor, finishing No. 25 last season.
On Sep. 18, the Hawks head south to play Stevens. The two squads have not seen each other since SUNY New Paltz defeated the Ducks 4-0 in 2019. Three days later, the Hawks face a never-before-seen opponent, Bryn Mawr College. SUNY New Paltz travels to Pennsylvania on Sep. 21 to play the Owls.
The Hawks return home the following week, hosting Kean on Sep. 25 and SUNYAC opponent Morrisville on Sep. 28. SUNY New Paltz has not triumphed over the Cougars since 2015 and only narrowly lost 2-1 last season. The Mustangs, however, lost to the Hawks 9-0 in 2023.
To start October, SUNY New Paltz travels to RPI on Oct. 2. The Hawks have defeated the Red Hawks in their last five meetings, with their last loss being in 2016. SUNY New Paltz concludes the week at Oneonta, taking on the Red Dragons whom the Hawks defeated 4-0 in the 2023 regular season.
SUNY New Paltz hosts Fairleigh Dickinson University, a team that the Hawks haven't lost to since 2004, on Oct. 9. That Saturday, the Oswego Lakers travel to SUNY New Paltz for another SUNYAC matchup. The Hawks defeated the Lakers 4-0 last season and have yet to lose against Oswego since 2008.
After a week of practices, SUNY New Paltz resumes play by traveling to face Montclair State, playing the Red Hawks on Oct. 22. But more importantly, on Oct. 26, the Hawks rematch against Cortland. The Red Dragons defeated SUNY New Paltz in the SUNYAC Championship last season, denying the Hawks victory by only one goal. This game also marks the last SUNYAC matchup for SUNY New Paltz in the regular season.
In their final week of play, the Hawks face both Ramapo and Vassar on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, respectively. Last year, SUNY New Paltz defeated Vassar in a thrilling double overtime win, securing a 3-2 victory and their third straight win over the Brewers. The match against Vassar is the last regular season game for the Hawks before the soon-approaching SUNYAC tournament.
The SUNYAC tournament is slotted to start Nov. 6 and will conclude on Nov. 9. The first round of the NCAA tournament begins Nov. 13.
