SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Rolls to 8-3 Road Win Over Utica

Utica, NY — Backed by another explosive offensive performance, the State University of New York New Paltz improved to 2-0 on the season following a commanding, 8-3 win over Utica Saturday.

Coming off another dominant win in their season opener Friday over St. Lawrence, the Hawks double down Saturday to score eight over the hosting Pioneers with junior Miranda Britton leading the way with two quick goals to start the half.

Ashley McGough then pushed SUNY New Paltz's lead to 3-0 by quarter's end, scoring her second of her career after redirecting a shot from Rachel Tama.

Utica earned one back two minutes into the second quarter, but Tama re-established the three-goal lead three minutes later with her fourth of the season. The Hawks offense continued garnering chances in their circle. Meghan Gunning slotted in an ensuing corner, which led to a shot by Tama that was blocked, before the Hawks earned another. Gunning played in the next corner with McGough narrowly added her second of the day, but the Pioneers' Madison Ranalli was there for the defensive save. Elizabeth Austin followed up on the play and put away the rebound for her first of her career to push the score to 5-1.

Utica scored four minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to 5-2, but McGough earned her second in the 38th minute to create a 6-2 cushion heading into the fourth.

Amanda Quenneville and Hannah Ackerman capped SUNY New Paltz's scoring in the fourth with Utica putting away its last goal in the 50th.
