New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York New Paltz fell 2-1 to the Vassar Brewers Wednesday on the South Turf Field.
The game started an even match, a battle for possession after possession. After a scoreless 18 minutes of play,
Brandon Dhanoolal broke the stalemate. The freshman from Tarrytown, NY earned his first collegiate goal, assisted by
Kieran Weber, to put the Hawks up 1-0.
The game continued in a similar manner until
Dom Pineda looked to have had a scoring opportunity
, but came up short as the Brewers goalie regained possession and sent the ball back into the Hawks
' defensive zone. The rest of the first half remained scoreless sending SUNY New Paltz into halftime up 1-0.
The Hawks offense created multiple chances for themselves in the second half but was stopped by the Brewer defense. The men earned three corner kicks in the second half, but did not score.
The game remained at 1-0 until the 80th minute. Vassar was able to work the ball all the way from its defensive half to SUNY New Paltz's goal line, scoring its first goal of the game in the 80th minute. The Brewers capitalized on the Hawks' shock and scored their second goal minutes after, 82:32 into the game, which decided the outcome.

The Hawks were outshot by the Brewers 10-8, but Vassar was able to curate more set pieces in the game, totaling 13 corners — 11 of which came in the second half.
Dhanoolal led SUNY New Paltz with two shots on the day.
Bryan Lizama, Weber and
Brian Boylan also recorded one shot each for the orange and blue. Micheli played the full 90 minutes and had four saves.
The loss dropped the Hawks down to 1-4 overall on the year. They are aback in action Sunday afternoon, taking on Manhattanville on the road for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
