Manahawkin, NJ — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its weekly national winners Wednesday with Hawks senior goalkeeper
Gail Comiskey named as the Division III NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week.
Comiskey collects the accolade after being named as the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.
Comiskey matched a career-high with 15 saves against No. 1 nationally ranked Christopher Newport last Tuesday on North Turf Field. The Hawks put up a valiant effort, backed by a standout performance by Comiskey who let up just one goal on 28 shots, 18 of which were on goal with the only goal allowed coming on a penalty stroke in the third quarter.
She then helped in a 9-0 shutout against Morrisville Friday, making one save on the one shot she faced in 30 minutes of action. She ended the weekend with a save percentage of .941 with a goals against average of a miniscule .67.
Comiskey is the first NFHCA national weekly selection since
Rachel Tama earned Offensive National Player of the Week last October.
