SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Collect 3-1 Win Over Morrisville

Hawks win third straight with road win over Mustangs

Morrisville, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz won its third straight game following a 3-1 win on the road over Morrisville Wednesday.

The Hawks improved to 8-2-2 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC with the victory, while the Mustangs dropped to 3-5-3 and 0-2-2, respectively.

SUNY New Paltz out-shot Morrisville, 14-9 and 7-2 in shots on goal, but the Mustangs held the advantage in the first half, 5-3. The Hawks, however, took advantage of the chances they garnered in the opening 45 minutes with Brandon Dhanoolal giving the visitors a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the game following a penalty kick opportunity.

Alex Wyant doubled the team's lead, putting away a cross sent in by Cam Mingle just outside the six-yard box for his fifth of the year in the 40th minute. The Mustangs answered though three minutes later, getting awarded a penalty of their own which they put away to trim the deficit to one entering halftime.

SUNY New Paltz controlled the second half of play, firing 11 shots with Bryan Lizama adding the insurance goal in the 74th off an assist from Ryan Zindler who centered a pass after beating his man down the sideline with Lizama one-timing his shot into the back of the net for his fourth of the year.

Zindler led the Hawks with three shots in 46 minutes off the bench, followed by Wyant with two in 78 minutes of action. The backline of Samuel Snider, Nico Peralta and Ryan Bochenski along with starting goalkeeper Matt Katz logged 90 minutes of action for SUNY New Paltz with Katz recording one save in the win.

SUNYY New Paltz returns home to host Oswego on South Turf Field Saturday at 1 p.m. for its annual Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. Game.
