New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz earned a 4-0 win over visiting SUNY Morrisville Wednesday to improve to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the SUNYAC.
The Hawks dominated the run of play with the majority of the game being played in their offensive half. They registered 43 total shots, 20 on goal with the Mustangs putting on one shot, which came midway through the second half of action.
Brooke Rosenberg got the offense started in the sixth minute, finding the top netting for her second of the season. SUNY New Paltz's offense went stagnant from there despite holding possession within its offensive third for the remainder of the first period.
The team regrouped to start the second and created more chances around the net, resulting in three second-half goals.
Brooke Kelleher nearly got on the board with a rip two minutes into the second with Morrisville goalie Alyssa Denton misjudging the strike, which careened off the front post.
Alyssa Deutsch was there to clean up, however, finding the rebound and volleying into the top corner for the score.
Rosenberg added to the onslaught two minutes later, as Deutsch helped transition the ball up the field finding
Maggie Cameron. Cameron found the feet of Rosenberg who sharply turned, took a touch and struck a nice-looking shot into the top corner once again to push the lead to 3-0.
Mia Baldinger then capped the afternoon, as the Mustangs mistakenly gave the former All-SUNYAC pick space to turn and take a few touches before lofting a shot over the head of Denton for the Hawks' fourth goal of the game.
SUNY New Paltz had near chances to pile onto the score, none closer than a rip from
Kara Jahrsdoerfer which hit off the post and out in the 80 th minute and another by Baldinger shortly after, whose shot from virtually the same spot as her earlier goal was saved on an impressive two-handed stop by Denton to keep the deficit at four.
Laney Schmitz led the team with seven shots, followed by Rosenberg and Kelleher with six apiece. Jones added five attempts and Baldinger four with each playing about 50 minutes apiece.
Madelyn Jachimiak secured the win and made one stop.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Saturday, going on the road to face Oswego at 12 p.m.
