SUNY New Paltz Women’s Lacrosse Sweep SUNYAC Weekly Honors

Lexi Atwater named Offensive, Gabriella Tommaso Defensive SUNYAC Athletes of the Week

Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz swept weekly women's lacrosse honors, officially released by the conference office Monday.
 
Lexi Atwater was named to her second Offensive Player of the Week recognition after a career week, while Gabriella Tommaso earned her first Defensive Player of the Week nod after the junior goalie helped her team to a 2-1 week including the program's first nationally ranked win.
 
Atwater was the offensive catalyst in the Hawks' 8-7 win over No. 19 Colorado College Monday. She scored seven of the team's eight goals including the game-winner in the final minute to push SUNY New Paltz to its first ever national ranked victory. She finished the game with a game-high six points, while grabbing three ground balls and two crucial draw controls with two caused turnovers. She added a goal with four draw controls against No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer and capped her week with a game-high six points against Canton and even garnered her 100th career goal in the performance after tallying five goals and one assist. She also registered four ground balls, one draw and two caused turnovers.
 
Tommaso, meanwhile, had a career week as she totaled 16 saves through the three-game slate with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. The Port Jefferson Station, NY native was huge in a historic week which started Monday in a career performance with five stops in a win over the No. 19 Tigers including a crucial stop on a fast break in the final seconds of the first half to keep the score at 2-1 at the break. She also led the team in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (3) in the win. Tommaso posted a season-high seven saves Wednesday against No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer while totaling three ground balls and two caused turnovers and in a win over Canton Saturday, the junior recorded four saves in 30 minutes of work while helping her record to 6-2 overall.
