Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Tuesday morning with Hawks senior second baseman
Tommy Kreider earning Athlete of the Week honors.
Kreider collected his second career SUNYAC Athlete of the Week recognition for his career after a prolific week at the plate.
The New City, NY native led his team offensively to two wins on the week against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Cortland. Against the Bears, Kreider went 2-for-3 with three hits, two RBI, two walks and three stolen bases. The three stolen bases pushed Kreider ahead as the program's all-time leader in the category. He was just one of four players to register a hit in game one against Cortland's Luis Misla, who earned Pitcher of the Week honors alongside Kreider, and in game two, Kreider finished 2-for-3 with two runs including a double.
In the field, Kreider was perfect. Playing primarily at second base and some short stop against the Red Dragons, Kreider totaled 14 catches, six put-outs and eight assists with a 1.00 fielding percentage. At the plate he went 5-for-10 with five runs, two RBI, two walks and three stolen bases with just one strikeout, while slugging .600 and finishing with an on-base-percentage of .571. Kreider is currently on a seven-game hitting streak.
