Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Tuesday morning with Hawks senior outfielder
Jackie Rometo.
Rometo collected her fifth career SUNYAC Athlete of the Week recognition, and first this season after a prolific week at the plate.
The Montgomery, NY native had a record-breaking weekend, as she helped the Hawks to their first win at home Saturday. She totaled four hits, including a walk-off game-winner in game two against Farmingdale while also becoming the program's all-time hits record leader in the process as her 176 hits put her atop the list, surpassing Hall of Famer Luaren Motzkin's previous record held since 2008.
Rometo went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in game one against the Rams, before going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, two RBI and two walks. She led her team with a .667 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage while bringing in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh that helped SUNY New Paltz capture an 8-7 win. Rometo also played her usual stout defense out in centerfield, totaling one catch and one put out in the doubleheader for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
