New Paltz, NY — The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced the winners of the annual Team Academic Excellence Award with the State University of New York New Paltz making the list for the third straight year.
Nearly 750 high school and collegiate programs across all three divisions were honored with the 2024-25 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, which was officially announced Wednesday. To be eligible member institutions must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2024-25 academic year.
The Hawks baseball program maintained a 3.27 throughout the year, including a 3.29 this past semester — the highest in the department among male programs — with 21 of their 35 student-athletes making Dean's List, while 19 were named to the SUNYAC Academic Commissioner's List along with 15 who earned a spot on the Hawks Academic Honor Roll for the spring semester. The team fared well in the fall as well, maintaining a GPA of 3.25.
Xavier Zykoff had a perfect 4.0 and was named as the Elite 20 winner during this past spring's SUNYAC Tournament, along with being this year's SUNY New Paltz Donald Bishko Award winner for the highest cumulative GPA maintained through the 2024-25 academic year, while
Tommy Kreider was named to a multitude of individual academic honors including SUNYAC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year, SUNYAC Sam Molnar Scholar Athlete of the Year, SUNY Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year and the Division III SUNY Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
SUNY New Paltz finished 27-15 overall and a program-best conference best finish of 14-4 this past season, earning its second-straight SUNYAC Tournament appearance.
