Springfield, MA — The State University of New York New Paltz went on the road to face Springfield College Sunday and came away with a convincing, 3-1 victory to improve to 2-0 to start the year.
The Hawks controlled the game from the opening kick and quickly found a 1-0 cushion just four minutes into the match as freshman
Owen Joyce registered his first career goal to push his team ahead.
SUNY New Paltz created opportunities in its offensive third and generated nine shots and four corners in the half but saw more success in the second half. Twelve of its 21 shots came in the final 45 minutes with eight of its 12 corners were generated in the second half, resulting in two more goals to take a comfortable, 3-0 lead.
Brandon Dhanoolal helped his team to a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute, finishing on his second goal of the year with senior midfielder
Riley Tait picking up the assist on the play.
Bryan Lizama then extended the cushion to three in the 77th minute, scoring his first of the year, as
Kieran Weber and
Zack Beach were both awarded assists on the play.
The Pride broke the shutout in the 88th, but the Hawks closed out from there to collect the victory.
Matt Katz made his first start as a Hawk in net and registered the win. Dhanoolal was the offensive catalyst, as the sophomore totaled a game-high four shots, two on target with a goal in 50 minutes.
Ryan Zindler followed with four shots in 67 minutes.

Leo Steiner and
Ryan Bochenski held the backline for SUNY New Paltz, all clocking a full 90 minutes on the day alongside Katz.
The Hawks are back in action Tuesday, as they come home to host Union Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
