SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Collects 1-0 Road Win Over Farmingdale

Kelleher scores go-ahead goal in the second half to push Hawks to second-straight win

Farmingdale, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz won its second-straight game after collecting a 1-0 road victory over Farmingdale Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks broke through in the 58th minute which turned into the game-winner.

SUNY New Paltz did well pressing to win the ball back within its offensive half, as senior midfielder Mia Baldinger stripped a Rams defender to gain possession with the Hawks then working the ball around through its back line. Senior center back Sam Wohlmut used the space in front of her to push the ball forward and found the feet of Baldinger stretching toward the right side. Baldinger then did the rest, winning her 1-on-1 matchup as she cooked her defender before sending a ball near post toward senior forward Brooke Kelleher who got a flick on the cross that went over the hands of Farmingdale keeper Hailey Stork (seven saves) and into the net for her third of the year.

SUNY New Paltz commanded the run of play from then on, limiting the Rams on anything dangerous on goal. Farmingdale's lone shot on target came in the final 20 minutes stemmed from a free kick outside the box, but Hawks sophomore goalie Jess Centeri was in good position and handled the attempt easily.

The Hawks out-shot the Rams, 15-7 including 8-3 in shots on goal, while generating two corners to Farmingdale's one. Baldinger, who played the full 90, totaled three shots, two on frame with an assist, followed by Laney Schmitz, who also clocked 90 on the night, adding three shots.

Graduate forward Kennedy Jones recorded two shots, both on frame, in 90 minutes with Kelleher adding two shots and a goal in 63 minutes. Sophomore center back Grace Lien tallied a shot as she played the full 90, alongside Wohlmut who also played the duration of the match. Centeri, meanwhile, finished with three stops in the win.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action Saturday, hosting RPI at noon.
